10 Things You Need to Do Before Your Boudoir Session (Because You’re the Main Character, Babe)
So—you’ve booked your boudoir session...
Cue the excitement... and maybe a little “WTF do I do now?” moment.
Don’t worry, we’ve got you.
At ONYX Fox Studios, we believe boudoir should feel like an experience, not just a photoshoot. That’s why we’re giving you the real talk prep list. No fluff. No fake rules. Just the stuff that’ll help you feel your absolute baddest self when it’s time to step in front of the camera.
Let’s dive in.
1. Hydrate Like It’s Your Job
Seriously. Start drinking more water at least 3 days before your session. Hydration helps your skin glow, reduces puffiness, and just makes you feel more energized.
Think: less dry lips, more dewy goddess energy.
(Yes, coffee still counts—but maybe pair it with some H2O, yeah?)
2. Wear Loose Clothing to the Studio
Skip the tight jeans. Say no to that death-grip bra. Come in cozy joggers, an oversized tee, or anything that doesn’t leave marks on your skin.
Because red lines across your booty from your leggings? Not cute in photos—and we want that skin smoooooth.
3. Get That Beauty Sleep, Baby
No one’s saying you need 10 hours like a Victorian child with consumption, but at least 7-8 hours the night before will make a world of difference. Tired eyes? We don't know her.
Plus, feeling rested helps you actually enjoy your session, not just survive it.
4. Shave, Wax, or Don’t—It’s Your Call
You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. If you love being smooth as a seal, go for it. If body hair is your thing, rock it proudly.
The only rule? If you do wax or shave, do it a few days ahead of time to avoid irritation or redness.
Your body, your rules.
5. Moisturize Like You Mean It
Dry skin is a no-go. Lather up your arms, legs, booty, and anywhere that’ll be seen. Just skip oil-based lotions on session day (they can leave stains on lingerie or mess with lighting).
Pro tip: Don’t forget those elbows, knees, and ankles. The little things matter.
6. Eat Something, Please
Do not come in starving because you’re worried about bloating. Boudoir is about confidence, not calorie math.
A light, healthy meal will give you energy and help keep your blood sugar stable. Trust us—you’ll need it once the posing, arching, and smizing starts.
7. Bring Your Outfits—Plus Options
Yes, up to 3 outfit changes are included—but don’t limit yourself to just three pieces. Bring options! Bodysuits, lace, leather, vintage tees, nothing but jewelry—whatever fits your vibe.
You also have access to our client closet, so if you’re unsure, we’ll help you pick the perfect pieces together. Fashion show? Always.
8. Stretch It Out
Boudoir posing is a full-body sport. You’ll be arching, twisting, pointing toes and holding positions longer than you’d think.
A little light stretching the night before and morning of helps loosen you up and prevents you from waking up feeling like you just ran a marathon in heels.
9. Nails Matter (Yes, Really)
You don’t need a full acrylic set, but do check your fingers and toes. Your hands are in nearly every shot—touching your face, your hair, your curves.
A simple file, clean polish, or even bare-but-tidy nails go a long way. Unless chipped navy blue from 2007 is your thing. Then… well, you do you, boo.
10. Check Your Mindset, Not Just Your Makeup
This is the most important one: come in with an open heart and a badass mindset.
You’re not here to be perfect. You’re here to feel powerful. To celebrate yourself. To take a moment and remember what a f*cking work of art you are.
Your nerves? Totally normal. But once we get started, that anxiety melts away—and what’s left is pure magic.
Final Thoughts: It’s About You, Not Perfection
Prepping helps, but here’s the truth: you don’t need to do everything perfectly. You don’t need to lose weight, get a spray tan, or fit some unrealistic mold.
You just need to show up.
Let us take care of the rest.
ONYX Fox Studios is your safe space, your hype squad, and your permission slip to feel damn good in your skin.
