What to Wear (and NOT Wear) to Your Boudoir Session – A Real Girl’s Guide

Boudoir

Let’s be honest:

Figuring out what to wear to your boudoir shoot can feel just as nerve-wracking as stepping in front of the camera. You want to feel sexy, confident, comfortable—but also not like you’re playing dress-up in someone else’s fantasy. At ONYX Fox Studios, we’re here to help you look and feel like the best damn version of yourself—without the guesswork.

So here it is: the no-BS guide to what to wear (and what to avoid) at your boudoir session.

1. YES: Bring Lingerie You Actually Like

If it’s uncomfortable, pokey, itchy, or constantly slipping—leave it at home. Boudoir is about feeling confident in your own skin, not battling a bra strap. That sexy lace number that fits like a glove? Yes. A bodysuit that makes your curves sing? Hell yes.

2. NO: Tight Clothes Right Before Your Shoot

Compression leggings, tight bras, and socks leave marks that will show up on camera. Wear loose, comfy clothing to the studio—we’re talking oversized tees, robes, sweatpants—anything that won't leave lines on your skin.

3. YES: Something Unexpected

A leather jacket. An oversized button-down. A band tee that screams your personality. A cozy sweater slipping off one shoulder. If it makes you feel like a badass, bring it. We’re all about mixing classic with edgy.

4. NO: Busy Prints or Neon Colors

They tend to photograph weirdly and can distract from you. Stick to solids, neutrals, or rich tones like wine, forest, navy, and black (always black).

5. YES: Your Favorite Pair of Heels or Boots

Even if you're barefoot for most of the shoot, a good pair of heels can boost your posture and confidence in an instant. Bonus: they look damn good in certain poses.

6. NO: Brand-New Everything

Don’t bring brand-new pieces you’ve never tried on or worn. Try everything on beforehand, stretch it out, and make sure it fits the way you want it to. Test run your outfits in the mirror—or better yet, strut around in them to feel the vibe.

7. YES: Use the Client Closet

At ONYX Fox Studios, you’ve got full access to our client closet—handpicked pieces in a range of sizes and styles. Whether you forgot something or want to try something new, we’ve got killer options waiting for you.

8. NO: Overthinking It

We promise—you do not need to bring an entire suitcase of looks. We’ll narrow it down together. You get up to 3 outfit changes, and we’ll style the session to show off your energy, shape, and vibe.

Remember This...

Your boudoir session isn’t a fashion show—it’s an experience, an expression, and a celebration of your badass self. Don’t worry about getting it “right.” The only rule is that you feel good in what you’re wearing. That confidence? That’s what shows up in your photos.

And if you're still feeling stuck, we’ll walk you through it. You’re not doing this alone. We’re your hype team, your style guides, and your safety net—start to finish.
